Individual Psychotherapy
People seek psychotherapy at a wide variety of points in life to address a wide variety of issues. Often talking to a professional who is objective and outside of your situation can help you to see things in a new light and to find possible new approaches and solutions.
Our clinicians use a wide range of theoretical frameworks and intervention styles. The focus of therapy can include any of the following, either singly or in combination:
You may know exactly what sort of therapy you are interested in, or you may have little idea what would be best for you. The only thing that you need to start therapy is an inkling that talking may help. The initial phase of therapy -- perhaps the first one to three sessions -- is typically exploratory. We'll talk about what brought you in, what your history is, and what therapeutic approaches might be helpful. From there, we'll work together to make a plan that makes sense.
While therapy sessions are always 45 to 50 minutes long, therapy varies greatly in terms of how frequently sessions are held (e.g., weekly, biweekly, monthly) and how long therapy continues for (e.g., weeks, months, or years). As with the approaches we use, these elements are agreed upon collaboratively.
